I have tried replacing the sensor unit with a refurbished one 10 year guarantee? Light still on so confronti significativi sent another one, still no joy.
Not sure if it is the sensor unit as could also be wiring or connectors from brake electronics, abs unit, to esp sensor. Has anybody had this problem and if so how did they resolve it. Many thanks in anticipation. Not too sure what part you have replaced, but the G is the steering angle sensor that sits behind the steering wheel and measures steering angle and rate of rotation. All part of the esp system.
The Audi Workshop Manuals refers to the sensor unit G as being underneath the right hand seat and it's this that was replaced. The ESP sensor contains the following senders: lateral acceleration sender-G, yaw rate sender-G and longitude acceleration sender-G only for 4 wheel drive vehicles.
After fitting the VCDS couldn't communicate with the unit as tried to calibrate the lateral acceleration sender G within the unit. As already said I replaced the original unit with refurbished units instead of new to save cost perhaps could try second hand unit but no way of telling if they work.
Just worried it may be the connectionsor wiring fault. Does anybody know where the ESP control unit is? No way of knowing if they were in working order. Does anybody know how I could test the sensor unit to see if it is working, the original is back in the car?
Just to let you know, the ESP warning light first came on during a journey and stayed on for the rest of the day. It has stayed on ever since. Does this indicate anything? Perhaps eleki can confirm that. I would be checking out the wiring to make sure all is ok there. Seem to have misread the op and is not the sterring angle sensor. However it may be an idea to read the actual value live data of this to make sure it is working ok.

My ESP warning light has been coming on pretty frequently, but I've found that it goes out if you restart the engine, so I haven't been too concerned. Tonight while driving home in the dark on slightly wet roads. Before I had time to pull over, I had to suddenly swerve to avoid a deer that was standing in the middle of the road.
I swerved around it to the right, then tried to correct, and ended up pulling too far to the left, the car fishtailed twice, spun round, and I ended up sliding off the road, down and embankment, through a field, coming to rest facing the opposite direction. Clearly I overcorrected, but I didn't feel that it had been so bad, and I was surprised not to mention scared of how little control i had of the car.
Is this normal, or could it have had something to do with the ESP not working? Would that have made a difference? I don't quite understand how that happened. I mean I've swerved before in other cars without sliding. You have to take several things in to be to see how things react. ESP is to help control wheel spin and while it can help it can not stop it under certain conditions. Then you have to look at how slippery where the roads how hard did you yank the wheel from left to right did you apply the breaks?
Once a car starts sliding of the road it is hard to correct as grass does not offer the same traction as pavement so once you where off the road it is hard to get back under control until the car stops. Plus how good are your tires? All these things have a huge impact on what happened. While no stability control system can overcome the laws of physics, I can say with a high degree of certainty that that this was due to the ESP being faulty.
It's very, very hard to get an Audi with ESP to fishtail and then spin around. You should get the problem checked out sooner than later. Hi, I really need answers to this before I have to drive again!
ESP Fault After Changing Battery
ABS warning light how to remove? I doubt you'll get many positive responses to this. Can you not just get it scanned and see what the fault is? May not cost too much to fix famous last words.
Light removal etc would not help as MOT testers usually check that the ABS light comes on for a couple of seconds before going out and staying out. Problem is most likely a sensor or an ABS control module failure which do have a history of problems on the VAG range. CasperS3Jul 25, Take a look at the vagcom list and see if theres anyone nearby who has it. At a guess I would go for the longtitudinal or latitudinal sensor A wheel sensor most simple to get changed would always be on pretty much straight away after turning the engine on, or after driving a few metres As for braking though I am pretty sure it says in the manual that when ever the warning light is on the dash then the ABS system is automatically dis-engaged and you will not have any ABS function I have had so many problems with my ABS unit and sensors I was in a very similar situation in that I wanted to take the damn light also!
But ended up with my car off the road for 3 months instead whilst various companies screwed me about I've just started getting this occurring, I suspect its related to giving the disks a damn good thrashing to get the built up rust off. I'll be taking a look in the next few days. It's mot failure if the light doesn't come on these days.

Have no idea what could cause this. I got it scanned and these are the codes it came up with. Any idea which code relates to this light? General85Nov 29, I'm not an electrical expert, but is the condition of your battery good? A failing battery can cause peculiar electrical activity and for some functions to be shut down to preserve basic starting and running functions. The sudden colder weather is exposing car battery weaknesses.
RetromanNov 29, Thanks for the reply. Is A1 the fuse number? If not, how do I know which fuse to check or would that be fuse number 30?Audi A3 esp light brake light switch removal
The battery is certainly a possibility. The car was off road for a very long time. I got hold of a battery think it was smaller than what it originally had and started using that. It's been working fine but that could be the problem as it's a smaller battery.
A wiring diagram I have shows that relay A1 is a little square plug-in unit at the bottom centre of the fuse box.
The fuse list names it as the "terminal 30 voltage supply relay". However, general voltage supply issues could trigger this error and given what you say about the battery and the current cooler weather, my money would be on the battery. Not quite VCDS but a diagnostic machine a friend has. I guess the first thing I should do is check the battery then. I have a 1. Thanks for your help! Could be wrong tho. WellyAug 3, Or do you mean keep the button pressed down until the light comes on rather than release it quickly to get the light on?
ESP light coming on could also be down to your tracking - if for instance you steering wheel is slightly out, vagcom will log it and occasionally switch your ESP off. A red symbol often required immediate attention, a orange symbol is less immediate, a flashing symbol is urgent and other colours are used to illustrate a system that is in operation.
This symbol lights up on the Audi A3 permanently to inform you that engine oil levels are low and need to be replenished.
Running significantly low on engine oil can cause catastrophic damage to an engine. See how to check engine oil for further information. Non-urgent but assistance should be sought soon. This may suggest a serious fault. If this symbol illuminates whilst driving, stop the car and switch off the engine immediately.
Engines that overheat can seize. If driving and this symbol illuminates, pull over and switch off the engine immediately. This symbol will illuminate on the dashboard to indicate one of two things. The handbrake is applied, please release the handbrake to continue. If the light remains illuminated with the handbrake released, this indicated a fault in the car brakes system.
If driving when the symbol illuminates and the handbrake is fully released, pull over and stop the car immediately and seek assistance. For further information, see why is the brake light on in my car?
A3 ABS/ESP Problem - One for Tame Technician?
This ABS symbol should illuminate for a brief period when the engine is started. If the light remains on or illuminates whilst driving, there is a problem with the anti-lock braking system ABS. This is not immediately urgent as normal braking will still be effective, though ABS may not function. This symbol should illuminate on the Audi dashboard when the engine starts and soon after extinguish.
Engine starting issues may arise. To maintain reliability, assistance from an authorised technician should be sought immediately. See Why is the battery warning light on for further help. This symbol should illuminate when the engine has started and shortly go out. This may result in the airbag not being deployed in the event of an accident. For further information about airbags and possible faults, see why is the airbag light on?
ESP light in an Audi A4 (very important!)?
This orange symbol illuminate when the engine is switched on and should shortly extinguish. If the light remains on or illuminates whilst driving, it suggests one or more tyres have insufficient air pressure. Stop the vehicle immediately to check tyres.
See tyre legal limit for information on having too high and too low pressure in tyres. If you are experiencing problems, see tyre pressure warning light keeps coming on.

Can someone shed any light on this or do I now need to visit my dealer?
I don't have VCDS do access any fault codes. I didn't have the fault before changing the battery. The lights may go off if you drive it Thats normall mate, just have a drive round the block, it will go off after a few hundred meters. Silky-S3Mar 7, Did your steering get all wobbly on you for a bit? Sidhu88Mar 8, I was actually on the way to a mechanic with vagcom to check it then it went off as i was driving.
The steering wheel symbol was on as i pulled out onto the main road and the car was pulling all over the place for a few seconds then the light went off and steering went back to normal.
I think its just due to the system resetting itself somehow. I reckon a few meters of driving passes signals to the ecu which shows there are no faults n then the lights go off. The steering is probably recalibration, or its figuring out its position.
Sidhu88Mar 13, All lights go off after driving a short distance - I have disconnected my battery on numerous occasions and changed it last weekend. BoydieMar 13, Hi all I have a A3 and on three occasions now the car has somehow disconneced itself and the esp light and steering light both yellow come on, but dissapear after i drive off.
The weired thing is this has occured after heavy rain only!!! Is my battery faulty? But it doesnt explain, only happening in haevy rain.
